History of Curly hair Transplant
The origins of hair transplant surgery originate from Japanese dermatologist, Doctor. Okuda, who in 1939 published new method in a Japanese medical diary of using small grafts that were like the way hair transplantation is conducted today. This method engaged using hair transplant grafts to take care of lost hair from various body areas, including the scalp, eyebrow, and moustache areas.
In the late 50’s one doctor in particular, Dr. Gary Orentreich, commenced to test with the idea of relocating or transplanting the hair on the rear and sides of the head to the hair thinning areas. Dr. Orentreich’s trials showed that when balding resistant hairs from the back and sides of the head were migrated, they maintained their balding resistant genetic characteristic irrespective of where they were transplanted.
This principle, known as “Donor Dominance”, founded that hair could be transplanted from the balding resistant donor areas to the balding areas and continue to grow for a life time. This kind of laid the foundation for modern hair transplantation. During the 60’s and seventies hair transplants grew in popularity. However, the normal of care involved the utilization of larger grafts which were removed by round punches and often contained many fur.
In the 80’s locks restoration surgery evolved significantly, as the large impact grafts were slowly but surely substituted with a more sophisticated combo of mini and micrografts. This “combination minuscule micrografting” hair transplantation method no longer used the punch to extract the bald resistant grafts. Somewhat a strip of balding resistant hair was operatively taken off the back of the head and then trimmed into mini and micrografts.

FUT versus FUE
The 90’s saw the gradual advantages of a very enhanced surgical treatment now known as “follicular unit hair transplantation” or “FUT”. This accurate and labour intensive method transplants hairs in their natural one, two, 3, and 4 hair “follicular unit groupings” in which they grow naturally.
The concept of creating the complete hair restoration using entirely follicular units was recommended by Dr. Robert Fossiles harz and was described in the 1995 Bernstein and Rassman publication “Follicular Transplantation”. Critical to the success of the follicular device hair transplant procedure was the introduction of the binocular microscope by Doctor Bobby Limmer of San Antonio Texas in the late 1980’s.
